Letters to Ultraman: Ace ウルトラマンへの手紙：エース

Dear Ace,

"Never lose your kindness. Never lose the desire to care for the weak, to help one another, or be friends with people from any other countries. Even if such a desire should be betrayed hundreds of times."

Funny how a man who says this is pegged as the joker outside canon.

It was, to put it simply, a fluke. When Gekiden was reprinted, Kurihara Jin revealed that writer Sagawa Ryu told him not to absolutely not pull any jokes with Man or Seven...but you were fair game. He placed you in that role without really knowing what you were about.

That fluke turned you into the semi-canon joker from that point forward. Yet this is the same man who loses his love in the line of duty (twice if you count Mabune's Story 0). The wandering swordsman of Ultra Ninja Manual, poor in coin but rich in friends. The young fighter who refuses to leave his brothers to certain death, because he has already lost one family and isn't about to forsake the one he has now. In all of them there is honour and courage and strength. And kindness.

I've only watched a little bit of your time on Earth. Even then I can tell they've missed out. I will never not take you seriously, yet I like that honest humour. It makes sense that you would try to make your own happiness and share it with others.

I'm hardly qualified to preach, but don't let your losses in love get you down. One day you're going to find someone. Someone who won't leave. And you know, I think even though you lost both your parents at a young age, some day you'll be a terrific dad. The funny one, who makes his kids smile. You had good role models around you.

I'll try to keep your wish alive. Gods, it is HARD, but I will try.

「優しさを失わないでくれ。 弱い者をいたわり、互いに助け合い、 どこの国の人達とも友達になろうとする気持ちを失わないでくれ。 例えその気持ちが何百回裏切られようと。」

こんな事を言い残した男が　設定外で笑いものと目されるのはちょっと信じられない。

あれが単なるまぐれだった。激伝の完全復刊版が出ましたら、画家の栗原仁が　脚本家の瑳川竜が「マンやセブンたちには絶対にギャグをさせないで下さい」と釘を刺されていた事を明らかにした。君の事は許しをいただいたそうで、即ギャグ担当をさせられた。

そのまぐれで君がジョーカーになったけど、その笑いものが義務を果たしながら愛した人を失った。（ストーリー0を含めば２回も同じことが）
ウルトラ忍法帖で金が貧乏だったが、仲間豊富の渡世人だった。
その若い戦士が兄弟を絶対に見捨てない。なぜならすでに家族を失って、今周りにいる家族を見捨てになれなかったから。
その一人一人の君に、正義と勇気と力が宿っていた。
そして、優しさ。

君の地球での活動は、少ししか見てないけど、それだけでも作家が大事なことを見逃したと感じる。
君をまじめに受け入れないことはないけど、その直接的なユーモアが好き。
自分の幸せを求めて作って、そして他人に分かち合おうとすることが納得できる。

説得する資格はないですけど、恋愛の失敗でくじけないで。
いつかはきっと、ソノ人を見つけるよ。もうどこに行かない人。
そしてね、両親を小さいころに亡くした君だけど、きっとすばらしいお父さんになると信じています。
面白くて、子供を笑わせるお父さんになる。
周りによい模範がいたから。

その願いを、かなえようとします。
時には非常に難しいけど、頑張ります。
