Dear Ultra Father,

They say that the Emperan War--what is now called the Great Ultran War--was won in a decisive fight, finally ending with the leader of each army duking it out, mano-a-mano, with swords.

I refuse to believe this.

For one thing, Zoffy was said to have fought in this war (hence the Star Marks on his chest), leaving 5 thousand years and more between the arrival of the Emperan and this war's eventual end. For another, wars do not generally end with mano-a-mano battles. They are fought by every man and woman, down to surrender or defeat, whichever comes first. Sometimes not even then.

So an occupation, then, an Emperan occupation. A time during which you saw four or five children born, never suspecting that they would join your son on a distant planet in a distant solar system one day. A time when men rose, whether they were brave or no, and fought to take back their world from alien hands. A time when people were maimed, scarred, killed. A dark time.

And from that dark time, you and your comrades reforged the light. The Garrison rose, with you as its first captain; without it, we would never have known your giant silver-skinned kind on Earth. One of your comrade's children became your own, and you started your own family. A family that grew as large as the Garrison, with sons and daughters of the shining grounds who called you 'Father' with equal parts respect and affection.

My thanks, Commander Ken, for your service. No, it was not one man's fight. But you were surely a part of it, and I won't deny you struck the Emperan a final blow. I wonder where that sword of yours is, though. Call it an academic interest.

ウルトラの父へ

エンペラー戦争―今やウルトラ大戦争という戦―が各軍団の指揮者の一対一の決闘で決められたという。

そんなことを信じません。

まずゾフィーはこの戦に参加した（そして胸のスターマークを授かれた）と言うので、エンペラーの出現から戦争の終わりまで５千年以上の間がある。
それから、普通なら戦争は一対一のサシで終わらない。
人が陸参か敗北まで戦い抜く。時にはそれでも、戦争は終わらない。

では、占領の時代。エンペラー占領の。
その時に四人か五人の子供が生まれるのを見た。まだ君の息子とともにある太陽系のアル惑星に活躍することを知らずに。
その時に勇敢であろうとなかろうと、漢が立ち上がり侵略者の手から自分の世界を奪還しようとした。
その時に、人が重傷を負い、傷跡つけられ、殺された。暗い時だった。

でもそのくらい時代から、また光を引き出させた。
第一番の隊長を勤めながら　宇宙警備隊が設立された。
その警備隊なしに、きっとあなたの銀色の巨人一族を知らぬでいる。
ある仲間の子が君の子に、そして自分の家庭を築いた。
その家族が警備隊ほどに大きくなり、輝く大地の息子や娘が敬意と愛情をこめてあなたを「父」と呼ぶ。

ありがとう、ケン司令官。
確かにあれは一人の戦いではなかった。だけど、君はそのすべての一人だったし、エンペラーに止めを刺したのを否定しない。
その刃はどこに収まったのかしら。ただの興味本位で。
