Letters to Ultraman: Ultraman ウルトラマンへの手紙：ウルトラマン

Dear Ultraman,

Well, here we are - yours is the last 'Letter to Ultraman'. I know Tsuburaya counts your pre-series airing as Ultraman Day, but excuse me if I prefer your official beginnings.

45 Earth years ago a recruit of the Space Garrison chased a rogue monster to Earth, and bumped into a Terran with a similar defensive role (in more ways than one). They were together for only a short time, but it was enough. For the first time in modern history, a stronger type of light had touched the blue planet. And so it continues to touch us, protecting the weak and guiding the lost.

I wonder sometimes, what is the human to the Ultran. Are we but another small insignificant race? Comrades, just very much smaller? A glimpse into a distant past, before a sun exploded and a people transcended their limits? I think back to the contingent of humans who finally made it/will make it to the Land of Light, 10 000 years after my own time, and the light that is too strong for them. And there, I falter.

Perhaps another 10 thousand years may pass, then, before we may stand upon your shores as you did on ours...

An Ultraman, a sword of the shining grounds, has the duty of an Ultraman. A human has the duty of a human. For now, may we both continue to fulfil our roles, Your captain once said that he looked forward to the day when Ultraman and human would stand side by side in space. I share his sentiment.

Happy Birthday, old man. So much has happened, and so much more still could. I hope they're good things. Whatever anyone else might say, we have come a long way.

ウルトラマンへ

さあ、ついに終わりに近づいている。
君の手紙が「ウルトラマンへの手紙」の最後の一通。
つぶらやプロは一週間前の君の前夜祭を「ウルトラマンの日」と名づけたけど、
自分的に第一話の公式放送を祝いたい。

地球時間で４５年前に、ある宇宙警備隊員が逃亡中の怪獣を追いかけて同じ護衛役目の地球人とばったり出会った（いろんな意味で）
短い時間しか一緒にいたけど、それが始まりだった。
近代史に初めて青い惑星がもっと強い光と触れた。
そして今までその光が人に接する。弱いものを守り、迷っているものを導いている。

時には思い浮かぶ。人間は、ウルトラ族にとってどういう存在なのかを。
私たちは、またひとつの小さい一族か？サイズが違えど仲間？
それとも太陽が爆発してある一族が限界を超えた前の過去へ垣間見えるチャンスだったのでしょうか？
私は　これから１万年後　ついに光の国に到達する人間とその「強すぎる」光を思い浮かんで、悩んでしまう。

たぶんまた一万年も過ぎたら、君が我が国に立ったように私たちが君の故郷へまた一歩を踏めるのでしょうか。。。

輝く大地の刀のウルトラマンは、ウルトラマンとしての義務がある。
人間は、人間としての義務がある。
今は、それぞれの役目を果たせるように。
君の隊長は、ウルトラマンと人間が手をつないで宇宙に並んでいる日を楽しみにしていたと言った。
私にも、同じ気持ちが宿っている。

誕生日おめでとう、おじさん。
これまで沢山なことが起こり、これからはまた沢山の事が待っているでしょう。
良いことであると願う。
人は何を言おうとも、私たちは遠くまで来た。
