Letters to Ultraman: Justice ウルトラマンへの手紙：ジャスティス

Dear Justice,

For the purpose of this letter, please allow me to refer to you as a woman. Yes, despite the fact you are ULTRAMAN Justice. Your presence makes me believe that it is a title, not a gendered prefix. You could be male, or genderless, but frankly your voice and your human form greatly sway me. And there is the personification of Lady Justice, so work with me here.

I call you sister of my heart, because I know you have been hurt by things you trusted. Believe me when I say I understand, even if only a fraction, and I know such scars can take years and years to fade.

But please remember justice without mercy is lessened. In Malaysia, two Malay words often go together: adil saksama. To be fair, as well as just.

Wherever you may go, take care. I'm glad Cosmos is with you to remind you to be kind to others and yourself. And please, do not lose sight of your hope again. None but you know the dark deeps of your soul. But they are made lighter when you find someone you can trust. I think you have found one such person. Cherish him.

ジャスティスへ

この手紙に、女と呼ばせていただきます。
ウルトラ「マン」なのに。
君の存在で、その言葉は性差のある接頭語ではなく、称号であるだと思い始めた。
君はもしも男性でいても無性でいても、君の声　そして君の人間態でちょっと惑わされて仕方もない。
地球に「正義の女神」と言う象徴もあり、どうかご理解を。

君を、心の姉妹と呼ぶ。
心をかけて信じていたものに裏切られることは知っている。
裏切りの悲しみはほんの少しでも、知っていると信じてください。
そしてその傷跡が消えるまでは何年がかかると知っていると信じてください。

でも同時にどうか覚えてください。
正義は慈悲と伴わなければ物足りないであること。
私の国マレーシアでは、マレー語で「adil saksama」と言う二つの言葉はよくともに現れる。
アディル・サクサマと言う事は、公平かつ公正であること。

君がどこへ行こうとも、元気であれ。
コスモスが君のそばで人に優しくして、自分にも優しくすることを思い出させるでしょう。
もう、希望を見失わないでくださいね。
君の魂の光なしどん底は、君にしか知られていない。
でも信じあえる人に出会うたびに、少しずつ光に照らされていくでしょう。
きみは、そういう者を一人見つかっただと思う。
大事にしてね。
